Use free ASO tools for validation, not automatic strategy.

Small browser tools are useful when they remove repetitive checking from an App Store workflow. They cannot decide which market to enter, whether a keyword is relevant, or what promise the product can credibly make.

The useful split: use tools to collect public context, count accurately, and catch mechanical errors. Use product evidence and human review to choose positioning, language, creative, and rollout priorities.

1. Inspect public localization coverage

AKRO-in Localizations Viewer

Enter an App Store app to inspect the public metadata available across its localizations. Use the output to compare how an app presents itself in different languages, identify obvious fallback copy, and prepare a review brief.

Public listing data cannot reveal a developer's private keyword field, internal keyword decisions, App Store Connect history, or Apple's ranking logic. Treat competitor metadata as observable positioning, not as proof that every visible phrase drives discovery.

2. Validate names, subtitles, and keyword fields

App Store keyword counter

Check private keyword-field length and inspect repeated or unnecessary terms. Apple's limit is currently 100 bytes, so non-ASCII text can require byte-aware validation rather than a simple visible-character count.

Localization character counter

Review multiple localized drafts together and catch over-limit fields before handing them to a native reviewer or release owner.

A green counter result means the text fits. It does not mean the text is relevant, grammatical, compliant, differentiated, or likely to rank. Keep a native-language review and a source-backed intent decision in the workflow.

3. Prepare screenshot production requirements

App Store screenshot sizes

Reference accepted pixel dimensions for current App Store device groups before export. Recheck the linked Apple specification when adding a new device family or changing the submission workflow.

App Store preview brief generator

Turn a sequence of benefits and product proof into a structured creative brief. The generated outline is a starting point; it still needs accurate product imagery, readable composition, localization, and device-specific QA.

4. Run a release checklist

ASO checklist

Track the mechanical review of metadata, creative, localization, measurement, and release preparation. Add app-specific legal, accessibility, support, pricing, and product checks rather than treating a generic checklist as complete.

Save the checked version with the release date, storefronts, approved copy, owners, and measurement hypothesis. A checklist is most valuable as a reproducible record, not as a score.

5. Connect the listing to post-install quality

After release, use App Store Connect to examine acquisition by relevant source and territory. Then inspect onboarding completion and activation in the app's analytics. Funnels by Improve ASO provides guided use cases for teams with existing GA4 data.

If conversion improves while activation declines, inspect source mix, localization quality, and promise-to-product alignment before expanding the same metadata or creative to more markets.

A repeatable lightweight workflow

  1. Capture the current listing, date, storefront, and app version.
  2. Inspect public localizations and choose a market-specific intent.
  3. Draft metadata from evidence, then validate field limits and duplication.
  4. Get native and product review for all customer-facing language.
  5. Prepare the screenshot sequence and verify current Apple dimensions.
  6. Record the hypothesis and baseline before submitting.
  7. Measure discovery, conversion, activation, and confounders after release.
Limitations: these tools do not provide private Apple data, guarantee keyword coverage, estimate future rankings, submit metadata, or replace App Store Connect, native review, product analytics, or professional judgment.
